Learn About Social Housing!
A social housing pilot project is coming to Cambridge — what does it mean?
An information session open to all
Permanently affordable, publicly owned, resident controlled — that’s what Cambridge Housing Justice Coalition wants to see, and why we’re holding a series of informational events meant to inform our community — and bring community voices into the planning process, as the City of Cambridge moves into planning for a pilot social housing project.
A celebration of Cambridge Housing Activists for the Cambridge Community Land Trust
Community Land Trusts are not only affordable housing options but the outgrowth of housing activism. We are building pathways to permanently affordable housing outside the private profit-driven housing market, while building collective power through community organizing.
The Cambridge Community Land Trust recently received an anonymous donation from an individual in recognition of neighborhood and activist housing justice work. This donation comes on top of another significant grant from the Cambridge Community Foundation. And alongside these financial resources, we’ve recently had significant encouragement from the City. These are powerful signals that what CCLT is doing matters. And they need to be celebrated!
Come to the gathering on July 12 (where we will honor other community housing activists) to hear more about our progress and our vision for more collective community organizing.
We will honor and hear remarks from our fellows:
Eric Boyd, Boston Neighborhood CLT, one of the residents who organized to win 6 Humphreys Place in Dorchester, later purchased by BNCLT
Lydia Lowe, Executive Director of the Chinatown CLT, and a longtime Cambridge resident and activist
Light refreshments will be served.
We are hoping to make a match with $5000 already promised from sponsors for July 12 in advance of the gathering.
Would you like to donate in honor of another housing/justice Cambridge supporter?

Where do Black Men Live?: On Housing Justice
The Cambridge Housing Justice Coalition (CHJC)—of which The Black Response is a proud member—was catalyzed in part by The Black Response’s earlier participatory action research (PAR) project. From that foundation, CHJC members formed the Un/Housing Working Group to examine the deep intersections between housing injustice and policing. This early work laid the groundwork for the broader coalition that exists today.
Affordable for whom? A Community Conversation
The Cambridge Housing Justice Coalition (CHJC) is proud to host a critical community discussion on the meaning and centrality of affordability in addressing the housing crisis in Cambridge. This important event will take place on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 7:30 p.m. at the Central Square Library (45 Pearl Street) and on Zoom. Doors open at 7:10 p.m. This event is in collaboration with The Black Response, Our Revolution Cambridge, The Cambridge Public Library, the YWCA, and the Cambridge Residence Alliance.
As Cambridge continues to grapple with skyrocketing rents and displacement, this discussion will offer community members a platform to engage in meaningful dialogue about what true affordability means and how it affects the most vulnerable members of our community. The event will feature an informative presentation on the definitions of affordability and shifting demographics of Cambridge, as well as powerful testimonies from rent-burdened Cantabrigians from diverse backgrounds. Their stories will shed light on the struggles faced by individuals and families striving to remain in Cambridge amid escalating housing costs.
The Cambridge Housing Justice Coalition invites all community members, housing advocates, and local leaders to attend and take part in this important conversation. Together, we can work towards a Cambridge where everyone has access to safe, stable, and truly affordable housing. We hope to see you there. Please share with friends and neighbors.
