City Vouchers and Affordable Housing Trust

We developed a proposal for municipal vouchers, specifically targeting at enabling the inclusionary program to be accessed by households below 50% AMI.  Based on this proposal, the City established the first Cambridge municipal voucher program at $1 million yearly allocation, targeting unhoused individuals.  We continue to push expansion of this program to increase eligibility and fill more gaps.

Previously, we developed a citizen’s zoning petition to allow the Affordable Housing Trust to fund municipal housing vouchers and facilities for the unhoused as well as requiring the Trust Board to include significant representation from impacted groups. Our petition team presented at hearings on that petition at the Planning Board and Ordinance Committee. Although the Petition was not adopted, this played a role in pushing the conversation on vouchers that enabled the success described above.
